Despite recent changes, Garner High band flourishes | The Garner Citizen

New band director Chris Serina, who graduated with from Appalachian State University and led bands in Rocky Mount and Johnston County, was officially hired a week before band camp was slated to begin. According to Principal Drew Cook, Serina has worked long hours to prepare the Mighty Trojans Marching Band for the fall season and instill mutual respect among the musicians.

San Marcos Record, San Marcos, TX - All That Jazz

San Marcos For Paul White, the album that did it was John Coltrane’s “Giant Steps.”

White was an undergraduate student at Appalachian State University when a roommate put the record on. It was the first song that really attracted White to the music he now makes a living performing.

From then on, White got serious about one thing: playing jazz.

The former Texas State faculty member and now saxophonist for the US Army Jazz Ambassadors will return to the Lone Star State when the Ambassadors perform at Aquarena Center in San Marcos at 7 p.m. Thursday. It’s been almost a year since he’s been back to Texas.

She earned her B.S. degree at Appalachian State University, her M.A. degree at the University of Arizona, and her Ph.D at Cincinnati's Union Institute and University.
